  • Know Your Audience
  • You should have a good idea of your target audience that will use or purchase your products and / or services. Obviously if you write children`s books then you know your age group, and if you write for Cosmo you know the audience are young ladies, and Sports Magazine generally middle aged men.
  • Use Real Language
  • Some people including myself have a tendency to write to technical and above my target audience. I use the theory that I am explaining things to my teenagers or a class of teenagers. At the bottom of the article I will usually put the technical resource information.
  • Have A Strong Closing
  • Here is your chance to shine and close the deal with a handshake. This is where everything is expected to come together. The Five W(s) briefly and inconclusion why you should buy these products and / or services now.
  • Proofread and SpellCheck
  • Many of us do not take the time to proofread what we write before we publish. I admit that I am terriable about this and I don`t have a spellchecker either. So I frequently have to google the word in question. As to proofreading I recommend someone else review what is initially written. Read it aloud and if it doesn`t quite sound right then rewrite it until it sounds right. If it sounds to wordy then I cut and reword to shorten. And punctuation corrections where needed. But Don`t Publish Yet !!!
  • Proofread Again and Punctuation
  • After about an hour or two has past since I proofread I will proofread it again... And if I am happy with the article - Publish. If not, then more proofing and rewriting until I feel it is right.
